Esthetic gum recession treatment option Denver Dentistry

Esthetic gum recession treatment option (303) 694-9740

There is a new dental material that  is new on the market from a dental manufacturing company VOCO that may helpin certain esthetic cases. It is a pink composite dental filling material that can be used on the root surface of the tooth. If the gums have receeded this material "may"  make the tooth appear look not as long. Denver dentists Dr. James DeLapp and Dr. H. Candace DeLapp believe this may be a treatment option for patients who display too much root surface when they smile.  Their dental office serves the Denver metro area including Greenwood Village, Centennial, Englewood, Highlands Ranch, Castle Rock, Castle Pine, Parker, and Ken Caryl areas of Colorado.

A high smile line... showing lots of gum tissue!

A high gummy smile is likely to show excessive root surfaces of a tooth that may give you the appearance of being older that you are (or not)! If you have a low smile line... that is good because in most instances you will show little to no gummy and long tooth smile. The treatment options in the past included:
  • No treatment... living with root surfaces shosing
  • Gum grafting... with variable results
  • Dental crown with pink porcelain on the lower 1/3 of the tooth
Current treatment option

Our Denver Dentists now have another option available to "mitigate" the long tooth look.  Pink composite dental filling material is availabel and may "help" with your problem.  Is the color perfect on everyone... absolutely not! Does it tend to mask the long tooth look... yes. Knowing what the options are gives you the ability to make a more informed decision on what direction you would like your treatment to go.

Denver Dental Veneers and Orthodontics

Dental Veneers and Orthodontics

Denver dentist Dr. James DeLapp and Dr. H. Candace DeLapp just published an article on their web site on using two techniques to opimize results.  This involves combining orthodontics and dental veneers.  The summary of the posting is ...at times ...we may wish to consider getting the teeth in a "more" ideal position before dental veneers.  Is combining orthodontics and dental veneers a frequent occurance... no! However, when needed it may give amore predictable results.

Denver Dental Veneers

Does dental veneers solve many esthetic cases... yes.  Do veneers solve "all" cases... no! In these situations we may need to use two different techniques to optimize the outcome of the cosmetic case.

Orthodontics only

Does orthodontics work in all  cases... again no!  If the teeth are of poor color that do not bleach effectively or are chipped or mis-shaped then orthodontics may not solve the problem. Orthodontics can mean something like Invisalign or full orthodontics with bands and brackets.  It all depends upon the movements and position of the teeth.

Teeth Whitening Denver Dentist

Teeth whitening choices

There are many different choices patients have to whiten or bleach their teeth. Over the years teeth become stained from a variety of substances including:
  1. Coffee
  2. Tea
  3. Tobacco products
  4. Red wine
  5. other
Our Denver Dentist Dr. James DeLapp and Dr. H.Candace DeLapp have allow their patients to choose from a variety of procedures to meet their needs. Teeth whitening or teeth bleaching fit the bill for many cases of teeth darkening (but not) all. Some stains are so well embedded that teeth whitening does little to change the color. Tetracycline staining in the most frequent stain that is difficult/impossible to change. Certain colors are more difficult to change. In our Denver Dentists opinion the ranking of color from easiest to bleach to most difficult to bleach is as follows:
  1. Yellow (most easy)
  2. Brown
  3. Gray
  4. brown/gray/multicolor
Options to whiten teeth

There are many methods to whiten or bleach teeth. Some teeth do not whiten with the simple technique and need more concentrated solutions. A few teeth do not whiten with the more complex whitening treatment and some type of dental veneer "may" be needed. The following list ranges from the simplest to the most complex in the following list:
  1. Whitening strip over the counter
  2. Non-custom whitening trays from the dental office
  3. Custom made whitening trays from the dental office
  4. One hour teeth bleaching protocols (Luma)
  5. Combinations of the above techniques
What if teeth bleaching does not work?

Yes... teeth bleaching does not work on every patient (it works on most!). In this situation we need to look at other options and this includes no treatment to some type of dental veneer. The key is the choice is yours.

Please call today!

Please call our Denver dentist at (303) 694-9740 and schedule an appointment today to see if you are a candidate to teeth whitening or teeth bleaching.

A case in progress Denver Dentist

The following is a case in progress in our office. Basically the orthodontics if finished and we are planning on either some type of dental bonding or dental veneers.

These are actual cases that Dr's DeLapp have completed or are in the process of completing. The following case is a good example of the fact that it may take several different dental disciplines in order to get the result we seek.

This case shows the remarkable nature of orthodontics. The space between the front teeth was excessive and there is no way that our Denver Dentists could improve the esthetics. The reason for the wide gap (diastema) is a frenum attachment between the front teeth. The frenum is very fibrous tissue that can keep teeth apart. The teeth will stay apart until this tissue is removed. One of the first steps in this case was to remove the frenum attachment.

Stage 2 Orthodontic Denver Dentist

The Second stage was for the orthodontist to approximate the two front teeth. This took a couple of years to get accomplished and the outcome was very good.

Stage three Dental veneers or dental bonding Denver Dentist (pending)

The last stage our Denver Dentist and patient is looking at is one of the following:
  • No treatment leave as is ( a much better result than the before!)
  • Teeth whitening or teeth bleaching only (for a brighter smile)
  • Dental filling to fix the broken tooth on #9 patients left central incisor
  • Dental bonding to fix the broken tooth#9 and add to the worn tooth #8 patients right central incisor
  • Dental veneers and dental whitening to align both front teeth
Each of these options has their pluses and minuses. Cost may be the deciding factor. As far as anticipated longevity the dental veneers on most patients is the longest lasting service. The issue is this is the greater economic investment (dental veneers cost more).

Denver Dentist White dental fillings (303) 694-9740

White Dental fillings Denver Dentist

White dental fillings are becoming the staple of this Denver dentists dental office. It is replacing in many (but not all) instances the old silver amalgam restorations. The amalgam restoration was composed of two metals mercury and silver plus some other trace elements. Since mercury was combined with silver it does not have the same toxic effects that mercury would have by itself. The current ADA opinion is that is that it is save to use with patients. Denver Dentists Dr. James DeLapp and Dr. H. Candace DeLapp provide a variety of dental services to their patients in the Highlands Ranch, Castle Pines, Parker. Ken Caryl, Lone Tree, and Greenwood Village areas of Colorado. Please feel free to contact their office at (303) 694-9740.

Old amalgam fillings turn black in time

Our Denver Dentist has seen many examples of silver amalgam restorations breaking down and turning black in time. This blackness in part is due to corrosion of the silver in the amalgam formula. As the filling breaks away bacteria can percolate down between the silver filling and the tooth structure resulting in a cavity (decay) under the dental filling. Most of the time we cannot tell how much cavity is under the dental filling until we remove it . What we hope for is none to minimal but at times the decay can be substantial.
